Thailand: The StandardX, sister brand to The Standard, has opened its second property in the portfolio, located in the Thai capital city of Bangkok.
The StandardX, Bangkok Phra Arthit has been designed in collaboration with The StandardX’s in-house team and Studio Freehand.
It offers 62 guest rooms across four categories along with a ground-floor, all-day Thai restaurant BANG, pop-up retail concept The Box with grab-and-go options, a rooftop pool bar serving a Mexican-inspire menu, and a rotating art gallery.
The nearby Silapakorn University and 10 10 Art Space showcases both visiting and permanent collections by local artists, launching with Gongkan and MRKREME. Both artists were commissioned to decorate the hotel’s street side and riverfront façades.
The Bangkok hotel joins the brand’s debut property The StandardX, Melbourne, which opened in August this year. Elsewhere in Thailand, additional locations include Phuket.
Hyatt acquired Standard International, the parent company of The StandardX, earlier this year for a base purchase price of $150 million. Up to $185 million could be invested over time as additional properties enter the portfolio.
Thai developer Sansiri PLC, which acquired a majority stake in Standard International in 2017, will continue to own several properties that will be managed or franchised under the acquired brands.
