Ascendant Capital Partners, in partnership with Highgate and Centerbridge Partners, have reopened the Monterey Beach Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio property, in Monterey, CA. Built in 1967, the hotel makes its debut under its original name after a significant renovation and rebranding effort.
The only beachfront hotel within the Monterey Peninsula, the property offers 192 guestrooms including four suites, as well as more than 7,500 sq. ft. of meeting and event space and reinvented culinary venues.
“Monterey Beach Hotel embodies the essence of the Monterey Peninsula and is a reflection of the quintessential central California coastal experience, which we sought to honor as part of a dramatic renovation of this truly one-of-a-kind property,” said Alex Halpern, cofounder/chief investment officer, Ascendant. “With its modern interiors, enhanced dining and drinking offerings and dynamic spaces for gatherings of every kind, the hotel pays homage to a convergence of the ocean, nature and the vibrant mosaic of the community that defines Monterey’s charm. We are excited to reintroduce this iconic property with an entirely new aesthetic and elevated experiences that reflect an incomparable sense of place along a truly special stretch of the coast.”
Leading the hotel’s design transformation was Los Angeles-based Indidesign, whose design was inspired by California living. Managed by Highgate’s in-house design & construction studio, LUCID, Indidesign included bespoke furnishings and a collaboration with local artists such as Jessica Bovert, Emily Hess, Jess Soriano and James Aarons, who provided mixed-media installations, handcrafted ceramic wall pieces and colorful murals.
Other hotel amenities include a heated outdoor pool, hot tub, a retail market and complimentary Zybra e-bikes for exploring the adjacent Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail. Beginning this fall, the hotel will offer Scandinavian-inspired contrast therapy with barrel saunas and ice baths.
The property is managed by Highgate.
Arash Azarbarzin, CEO, Highgate, said, “We are proud to celebrate the opening of Monterey Beach Hotel and its addition to our portfolio, which marks a significant moment for Highgate. It’s an exciting time and an honor to bring our expertise in hospitality management to this landmark property, illuminating its status as a premiere destination along California’s Central Coast and integral to the fabric of the community through authentic experiences for locals as well as leisure and business travelers.”
