Hotel Indigo Baltimore Downtown has been inducted into Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Managed by Remington Hospitality, the hotel joins more than 300 properties nationwide honored by Historic Hotels of America for their “exceptional commitment to preserving historic integrity, architecture and ambiance.”
“Historic Hotels of America is delighted to induct Hotel Indigo Baltimore Downtown, a modern boutique hotel built in 1907,” said Lawrence Horwitz, EVP, Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide. “We commend Hotel Indigo Baltimore Downtown, [owner] MVH Baltimore Hotel LLC and the leadership team for their careful historic preservation work, stewardship and vision that will allow future generations of travelers to experience this unique historic destination.”
To be selected for membership in Historic Hotels of America, a hotel must be at least 50 years old; has been designated by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark or listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places; and recognized as having historic significance.
Located in the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, the property originally served Baltimore’s youth and young adults. It later became a dormitory for Baltimore International College, an institution specializing in culinary and hospitality management. After a comprehensive renovation in 2014, the building reopened a year later as the Hotel Indigo Baltimore Downtown. The renovations celebrated the building’s academic past, with a literary theme that can be found at the hotel’s Poet’s Modern Cocktails and Eats restaurant.
“It is a privilege to share the rich history of our hotel with guests from around the world,” said Eric Reyes, GM. “This recognition not only honors our commitment to preserving the past but also enhances the unique and memorable experience we offer to every visitor. We look forward to continuing to celebrate the stories and heritage that make Hotel Indigo Baltimore Downtown truly special.”
