US: San Diego-based hospitality group CH Projects is due to open its second hotel, Baby Grand, located in Coronado early 2025.
Set across from the Hotel Del Coronado on Orange Avenue, Baby Grand is a $17 million project led by Brooklyn design firm Post Company.
It will comprise 31 rooms and three dining venues, including an oyster bar and an omakase restaurant.
Rooms feature clamshell beds and oversized mirrored minibars, while the bathrooms offer freestanding bathtubs.
The carpark has been transformed into an outdoor, all-day fine dining restaurant. Palm trees, wild flora and vines, as well as a two-storey waterfall provide the backdrop to the dining experience, which also features a tented bar.
Arsalun Tafazoli, CH Projects’ founder, said: “Coronado is such a unique element of San Diego’s layered persona. We wanted to create a hi-lo gathering place that reflects the island’s storied reputation as a getaway gem of the Southern California coast, while also serving as a social hub and neighbourhood amenity for our neighbours.
“I’m enamoured with rejecting the “now” – we’re building Baby Grand to lovingly evolve the cultural fabric of my home city, and provide a place for meaningful connections and memorable experiences,” he added.
Baby Grand joins CH Projects’ first hotel, the Lafayette Hotel and Club, located in North Park, San Diego.
